Asalamu Alaikum, Dear CIOGC Community,
Every year since 2009, CIOGC has provided the greater Chicago Muslim community the opportunity to engage with Illinois legislators in a meaningful way through Illinois Muslim Action Day (IMAD). Our legislative agenda is inclusive and serves of importance to not only the Muslim community but the greater Illinois community as a whole.
IMAD is an event when CIOGC leads Illinois Muslims in a day of advocacy and change at the state capitol in Springfield, Illinois. During IMAD, Muslim community leaders meet with their legislators to discuss issues and topics that are relevant to the Muslim community and promote the greater good.
Due to your support and engagement, we recently helped get the Anti-Registry Program Act, Religious Garb Bill, Illinois Trust Act, Combating Hate Crimes, Ensuring Police Accountability, and Faith-Based Violence Prevention bills successfully passed by both the Illinois State Senate and House, and subsequently signed into law by Governor Rauner.
IMAD is also a day when CIOGC sponsors youth to serve as Pages to gain hands-on experience in the day-to-day operation of the Illinois Senate or House of Representatives. Their duties consist primarily of delivery of correspondence and legislative material including taking messages for Members, preparing the Chamber for Senate sessions, and carrying bills and amendments to the desk.
As 2018 comes to an end, we encourage you to donate to CIOGC as we prepare for Illinois Muslim Action Day in the spring of 2019. Any amount helps, whether it is $10, $100, or $1,000. Your generous contributions will help us strengthen our program and allow us to accommodate the participation of even more members of our community.
With your support, the Muslim community is poised to make a greater impact at IMAD 2019.
Thank you,
The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC)
