Muslims throughout the United States were alarmed to find the sale of home bath mats, inscribed with Quranic text, on the Amazon website. The bath mats were marketed under the trademark, “Emvency”, a trademark submitted by Suzhou Taluo International Trade Co., Ltd., based in Jiangsu, China.
As a result of numerous complaints, a campaign facilitated by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Amazon quickly removed the offensive products from its online website.
At this time no further information is known if the vendor, Emvency, will continue to sell these offensive products through other online services. It is important, therefore, that we all remain vigilant to guard against all forms of Islamophobia.
