Our mission is to be the unifying federation of Islamic organizations of greater Chicagoland, the leading advocate of Muslim community interests and a catalyst for enriching American society.
The Council Celebrates 30 Years!
The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago, CIOGC is celebrating 30 years this year! By the grace and mercy of Allah (SWT) the Council is celebrating 30 years of being Chicago’s largest Muslim non-for-profit organization. This is a moment for all of us and our communities to join and mark; we invite you to join in as we mark this milestone.
For us, this year is a time to celebrate not only our longevity, but to acknowledge our achievements and to express our gratitude for the people and organizations, both within and outside the Muslim community, that have helped us.

“Our mission is to be the unifying federation of Islamic organizations of greater Chicagoland, the leading advocate of Muslim community interests and a catalyst for enriching American society.”
For nearly three decades, the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) has served as the unifying force that brings together over 400,000 Muslim Americans in the greater Chicago region, and now increasingly all of Illinois. With over 60 member organizations, ranging from mosques to Islamic schools and community organizations based in the Chicagoland region, the CIOGC is made up of a very large and diverse body. Muslims are represented by a wide array of ethnicities, races and cultures including African Americans, Nigerians, South Asians, Arabs, Bosnians, Albanians, Turks, Latinos, Caucasians, and many more. The Council brings these extraordinary communities together in cooperation and collaboration to engage and work with the interfaith community, government, media, and the public in general.
Civic Engagement:
CIOGC develops platforms for membership and the Muslim community at large to engage elected officials and community leaders concerning public policies impacting our communities and neighborhoods. Starting with an annual day of advocacy in Springfield (IMAD), our work around civic engagement has expanded to include voter registration, GOTV, candidate forums, and town hall meetings with elected officials. Examine the scope of our work and opportunities for your engagement through this link.
Interfaith Relations:
A fundamental component within our mission is building an understanding of the religion of Islam in the broader community and cultivating collaborative relationships with other faith traditions directed at the promotion of social justice and equity in our society.
Member Services:
The common thread of our work and projects is the empowerment of member organizations. Through collective purchasing opportunities, best practices workshops, and skill training affecting operational and fiscal management, CIOGC strives to foster stability and sustainability among member organizations.
The Council Of Islamic Organizations OF Greater Chicago is an independent, nonpartisan organization.
