The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) is requesting that Sharon Brannigan uphold her commitment to the Palos Township community as a member of the Palos Township Board of Trustees.
As a public servant, she took an oath to adhere to the principles of our U.S. Constitution, and serve all segments of the Palos Township community. As such, we are requesting that she retract and apologize for the following statements she made on social media about Muslims in Palos Township:
“In the 3rd district here in Illinois, our demographics include 25% Muslims of which very few integrate within the communities keeping themselves and their activities hidden from the general population … Everywhere you turn, from Orland Park to Bridgeview, those numbers are increasing in leaps and bounds. We are allowing these people whether they have peaceful intentions or not into our country without question.”
“What has Dan Lipinski done to stem the flow of Middle Eastern immigration into our beloved United States while we are at war with Islamic extremists? Nothing.”
“Watching President Trump and family this morning I am so proud that they represent us! Am particularly proud that our women are not wearing headscarves. WE AMERICAN WOMEN ARE BEING REPRESENTED WITH DIGNITY!”
Muslims work, live, and pay taxes as residents of Palos Township, which includes Bridgeview, Hickory Hills, Orland Park, Palos Heights, Palos Hills, Palos Park, Worth, and Willow Springs. These communities have the largest Arab and Muslim communities in the state of Illinois.
Her statements do not reflect the values of Palos Township, which as a member of the Palos Township Board of Trustees, she has sworn to uphold.
