CIOGC Receives Resolution From MWRD

The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago, CIOGC is honored and grateful for the resolution of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, MWRD recognizing the Council in its 30th year!  The Council is very appreciative and grateful to MWRD Commissioner Mariyana Spyropoulos for her leadership in presenting a resolution recognizing the Council for its accomplishments as the Council is celebrating 30 years of representing Chicago’s Muslim community.  The Council’s role in communication, collaboration, and coordination within Chicago’s Muslim communities and our neighboring communities, government agencies, and elected officials is to bring beneficial resources, programming, and services to all those in need. The Council looks to continue its legacy as a contributing organization to one of the greatest cities in the country, the city of Chicago.

The Council recognizes the leadership of MWRD Commissioner Mariyana Spyropoulos and her contributions to our communities. Commissioner Spyropoulos is a true champion of public outreach and transparency, with her coming up with an app where residents can report water pollution and record and stream board meetings, residents are more in the know than ever before. Spyropoulos pushed for the MWRD support of the Paris Climate Agreement in the battle against greenhouse gasses. Her efforts in cooperation and knowledge sharing have resulted in memorandums of understanding with organizations in Denmark and India. Her progressive policies were critical components in the development and bettering of schoolyards, suburbs, and beaches across Chicago.

The Council would like to thank the MWRD commissioners for their passing of the Resolution. The Council appreciates your service.
