CIOGC joins interfaith service in solidarity with Charlottesville

CIOGC joined the interfaith community of Chicago Monday, August 14, for a prayerful gathering of solidarity with the people of Charlottesville – and all those who courageously resist the white supremacist racism that grips our country.

Muslims, Jews, and Christians, along with Mexican immigrants gathered at the Kluczynski Federal Building in downtown Chicago to share a united message that hate has no home in America.

The gathering summoned the most sacred elements of the group’s common faith traditions: to proclaim the transformative power of love, to stand with the oppressed, and to fight for the liberation of all.

The event was sponsored by: Tzedek Chicago, Muslim Peace Coalition, and the First Lutheran Chuch of the Trinity. Co-sponsors of the event included: Jewish Voice for Peace – Chicago, Christian Peacemaker Teams, American Friends Service Committee – Chicago, Beth Emet – The Free Synagogue, Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago, Interfaith Worker Justice, 2nd Baptist Church of Evanston, Chicago Religious Leadership Network on Latin America, American Muslims for Palestine, Congregation Makom Shalom, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Lake Street Church of Evanston, Jewish Council on Urban Affairs, InterReligious Institute at Chicago Theological Seminary, and Women’s March – Illinois.
