CIOGC condemns terrorist attacks on Sri Lanka churches and hotels

The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) vehemently condemns the terrorist attacks that killed at least 207 people and left hundreds more injured in Sri Lanka churches and hotels on the holy day of Easter Sunday.

“CIOGC stands with our Christian brothers and sisters and all victims of these inhuman attacks. We express our condolences and pray for all who are suffering.” said Irshad Khan, CIOGC Chair. “All people should be allowed to practice their faith freely, and in safety and security. Like Christchurch, these cruel acts of hate will not compromise our faith.”

“We express our grief and solidarity with all the victims of this horrific attack,” said G. Abdullah Mitchell, CIOGC Executive Director. “We call upon all people of faith and goodwill to not let the recent repetition of such acts dull our sense of outrage. We must remain vigilant in standing against extreme violence wherever it may appear.”

CIOGC extends its deepest sympathies to the grieving families of those who were killed today, and ask the Almighty to grant each of them solace in this time of personal loss.

The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) is a federation of over 50 Islamic organizations and the leading advocate of Muslim community interests throughout the metropolitan Chicago region.
