A Civic Message Goes National

In the final week leading up to the midterm elections, CIOGC’s Civic Engagement committee initiated an aggressive campaign to raise the awareness of the Muslim community of the importance of exercising their right to vote. With the formation of our own civic website www.muslimgovote.com and the publication of a series of professionally prepared videos, the committee built a message that resonated with our voter base: “Our Time… Our Vote.”

The videos highlighted not only the importance of voting, but offered strong reasons for Muslims to vote. There also was an aggressive push through our social media accounts resulting in our message reaching communities across the United States and being viewed thousands of times.

We wish to thank Aliya Husain, Suzanne Akhras-Sahloul, Itedal Shalabi, Sh. Ahmed Arafat, and Imam Tariq El-Amin for their participation in the videos. We also wish to thank Mahmoud Bassout (our website designer), Deanna Othman (who unselfishly committed herself to provide narrative design and content on very short notice), Molham Kattaiheh (our videographer, producer, and inspirational cheerleader for the project), Omar Husseini (our video editor), and Yazan Abu Harbid (our marketer), for generously giving their talent, time and energy to successfully promote our message to the community. Finally, we wish to thank the members of the civic committee, especially its co-chair, Irshad Khan, for their ongoing support to drive this message to the community.
