Hamaas Ibrahim moved to the Northern Suburbs and joined the Islamic Foundation North community in the mid 1990’s. He is a plumber by profession and currently is an instructor for apprentices and journeymen and journeywomen.
He has been associated with Urban Muslim Minority Alliance (UMMA) since 2004 and serves as its Board President. UMMA is a direct services nonprofit organization providing access to food through its food pantry and career development through GED classes and trade focused instructional classes.
To address the lack of affordable housing, he started UMMA Uplift, which is an affordable housing program serving residents of Lake County, Illinois. To date the agency has secured three single family homes for needy families and projects to develop 25 affordable apartments over the next two years.
