Charles Muhammad served as president of the local school council at Whitney Young Magnet High School; and as a delegate on the city-wide Advisory Board for Chicago Public Schools. During his tenure on the Whitney Young H.S. LSC, he established the WYHS Muslim Students Association. His community service also includes: Imam at an Oak Park masjid, and at Chicago’s westside masjid; executive board member for the Oak Park – River Forest Community of Congregations (an interfaith council); and on the trustee board for Chicagoland Shura Council. Charles has served as a delegate on the CIOGC House of Representative for Masjid al-Taqwa and Al-Aqsa Community Center.
Charles and his wife Maria reside in Shorewood, IL. They are proud parents of two sons, two daughters, and nine grandchildren. Charles’ professional career includes: Civil Engineer on highway and bridge projects; and Teacher for the Oak Park School District.
