The Mecca Center is seeking a full-time Executive Director (ED) to diligently execute the strategic plan of the organization and direct the day-to-day operations of the center. As the Mecca Center moves to its new home we expect rapid growth in membership and programs. The ED is expected to play a significant role in ensuring a smooth transition and expansion to the new site.

Job Description – Executive Director of The Mecca Center

Position

Under the supervision of the Executive Committee, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for The Mecca Center staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission, ensuring the organizational integrity is maintained. The ED will work with the Imam and the various committees within the organization to develop deep knowledge of field and will effectively lead the team of employees and volunteers to effectively meet their yearly goals while further growing the team.

Responsibilities

Leadership

* Ensure ongoing organization excellence through rigorous program evaluation, consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the organization’s strategic goals

* Actively engage and energize The Mecca Center staff, volunteers, Board members, internal committees, partnering organizations, and donors

* Develop and implement an effective leadership development plan for staff and volunteers

* Represent the organization in the community and larger society to enhance the organization’s profile

Strategic Planning

* Develop and maintain strategic and long term plans for the organization. Conduct an annual review to assess any required changes.

* Lead the planning and review process to determine the future social, cultural and educational needs of the Mecca Center’s Muslim community and the required financial resources

* Identify opportunities with the organization’s goals, policies and / or practices; guide and assist the Board in the examination and revision of key policies and goals

Operations and Management

* Ensure adherence to strategic plans, annual goals, objectives and budget

* Develop operational plans, incorporating goals and objectives derived from the strategic direction of the organization

* Forecast and plan a comprehensive annual action plan and budget for approval by the Executive Committee

* Manage and maintain the approved budget and provide regular reporting to the Board

* Administer the business and manage the day-to-day operations, such as HR matters, payroll, payables and receivables, legal and accounting

* Seek and build Board involvement with strategic direction for ongoing operations

* Ensure proper implementation of the Executive Committee and the Board decisions

* Establish a positive, healthy, and safe work environment in accordance with all applicable and current laws rules and regulations

* Maintain active oversight and supervision of the non-religious affairs of the Mecca Center

* In collaboration with the Imam, strategize and implement religious programs and events

* Supervise and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and activities

* Facilitate effective operations of the Board, Executive committee and all other committees as needed

Fundraising

* Initiate, develop and measure all fundraising efforts

* Help identify potential strategies and contributors for increased giving

* In collaboration with pertinent committees, plan and implement revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing programs, retire and prevent a build-up of debt

* Supervise the accounting, maintaining the By-laws, tax status, grants and Board activities related to fundraising campaigns and solicitations Administration and HR

* Defines position duties and responsibilities for all employees of the organization as assigned; delegate direct supervisory authority and responsibility as appropriate

* In consultation with staff and the Board, develop a statement of personnel practices for Board’s review and approval

* Recruit and build a volunteers base

* Supervise and evaluates all assigned staff and volunteers

* Provide clear direction to the staff and volunteers

* Develop systems to evaluate staff and measure progress of organization; provide periodic reports as needed to the Executive Committee 

Communication and Community Outreach

* Design and develop a communication plan to address the strategic needs of the organization

* Develop and implement strategies and activities to reach out to the community at large

* Enhance and refine all aspects of communications with the goal of creating a stronger brand: Web presence (website, social media, news letter), External relations (media, local/government officials, other religious and partner organizations), Internal communications (staff, volunteers, different committees and Board of Directors)

* Build partnerships and actively engage with the community, establishing relationships with the donors, local political and community leaders

* Manage internal and external communications of the organizational initiatives, such as services, community events and special projects 

Qualifications and Experience

* College degree with at least 5 years of senior management experience; proven track record of effectively leading, including vision casting and strategic implementation

* A practicing Muslim who reflects a role model by demonstrating Muslim values, ethics and practices

* Substantial knowledge of the Muslim faith and practices and the American Muslim community

* Well versed in non-profit organizations rules and requirements

* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people

* Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, set and achieve strategic objectives, manage a budget; prioritize workloads executing appropriate judgement and confidentiality

* Confident, self-motivated, results-oriented individual with a shared leadership mindset necessary to engage and lead a team; Team player with a positive, service oriented attitude

* Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures

* Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels and engage effectively with the public and media

* Fluent in oral and written English; Proficiency in Arabic language preferred

* Experience and interest in youth and interfaith activities

* Basic understanding of compliance and risk management
