5/3/17 – CIOGC social justice panel underscores women’s activism

CIOGC held a women’s panel entitled “Islam, Women, & Social Justice” at Islamic Foundation in Villa Park on Sunday, April 30. The panelists included Dr. Aminah McCloud, founder and director of the Islamic World Studies Program at DePaul, Husnaa Vhora, CIOGC Communications Coordinator, and Sadia Nawab, Youth and Arts Manager at Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN).

The panelists spoke on various topics, including how Muslim women are leading social justice efforts to create positive change in society, the various challenges Muslim women face in society, why it is important to have more Muslim voices in media, and how the arts can be used to influence and teach youth about social justice. The panelists reflected on the work of Muslim women in the community and echoed the importance of staying involved and remaining at the forefront of these efforts.
