4/5/17 – Hassan Shibly to speak at Muslim-Methodist Interfaith Dinner

On April 19, CIOGC and the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church will hold their 12th Annual Methodist-Muslim Interfaith Dinner entitled, “Immigrants and Refugees: Our Nation’s Story,” which will bring together members of both faith communities to share how they or their families emigrated to the U.S.

CIOGC invites community leaders and representatives from member organizations to attend this event. Please RSVP today at MethodistMuslimDinner2017.Eventbrite.com. The program of the evening will feature two speakers, representing each faith community.

Representing the Muslim community will be Hassan Shibly. He is the son of Syrian Muslim immigrants, and was raised in Buffalo, New York. He is the founder of the Center for American Muslim Understanding. He is also the Chief Executive Director for CAIR-Florida and serves as a consultant for non-profit organizations, government agencies, and media organizations among others. Shibly’s work in protecting civil liberties and promoting understanding of the Muslim faith have landed him on major national media outlets, some including, and the New York Times.

Mr. Shibly lectures regularly on issues relating to Islam, American Muslims and Civil Rights. He has taught courses on Islamic belief, law, history, spirituality and culture. He actively works with various interfaith and social service organizations to assist those in need and promote cooperation and understanding between diverse faiths and cultures.
