4/27/16- CIOGC and UMCNIC Take on Hate at the 11th Annual Methodist-Muslim Dinner

CIOGC, along with the United Methodist Church – Northern Illinois Conference (UMCNIC) held the 11th Annual Methodist-Muslim Interfaith Dinner on Tuesday evening. With “Faiths Against Hate: Scenarios of Solidarity” as the evening’s theme, 150 guests representing both Muslims and Methodists attended the dinner at the Islamic Center of Naperville to learn more about the other’s faith and listen to the keynote speaker Dr. Rev. Larry Greenfield speak. Following his inspirational address, individuals discussed what they would do in various scenarios in which they were witness to discriminatory behavior or rhetoric taking place against an individual. Bishop Sally Dyck shared a recent hate crime involving a religious center in her community and motivated individuals to stand up in support of SR1748. As always, it was a pleasure to collaborate with UMCNIC to celebrate, reflect on a strong relationship that only reaffirms a mutual commitment to one other.
