Civic Engagement Training
“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi.
April is a significant month for CIOGC because that is when we hold one of our biggest annual programs: Illinois Muslim Action Day (IMAD). We realize that not everyone can take a weekday off to join us in Springfield as we represent Muslim voices, but as members of this community, we owe it to ourselves, our families, our community and our faith to learn how to make a difference. And, most of us CAN sacrifice a weekend morning to attend an eye-opening training. It takes a community to enact change. CIOGC is partnering with DuPage United to offer Civic Engagement 101 Training on Community Organizing on Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Islamic Foundation School. We look forward to you joining us! Please click here to reserve your spot. Registration is free of cost and seats are limited.
The training will teach you community organizing basics, and the theory behind the big picture. It will shed light on how to make your voice heard, understand what power is, and how to develop relationships that motivate, all within the framework of community organizing.
Democracy is not merely voting, but actively engaging in the public arena to solve challenges in our communities.
