3/16/16- Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump Win Illinois Primaries

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton achieved major victories in Tuesday’s presidential primaries in Illinois. They’re moving closer to winning the nomination for their respective parties. Illinois was tight for Clinton and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. But not for Trump and the Republican candidates. Clinton had to fight hard in her home state of Illinois. But in the end, the Park Ridge native won. Meanwhile, in the wake of her handling of the Laquan McDonald case, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez lost her bid for reelection by a wide margin to Kim Foxx on Tuesday night. With 100 percent of the vote counted, Foxx had nearly 58 percent of the vote to Alvarez’s 29 percent.

To win the Democratic nomination, a presidential candidate needs 2,383 delegates. Clinton currently has 1,572 and Sanders has 813. To win the Republican nomination, a presidential candidate needs 1,237 delegates. Trump currently has 631, Cruz has 401, Kasich has 138 and Rubio had 168.
