Every March, people everywhere celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) as part of a greater celebration that is International Women’s Month. CIOGC commemorated IWD, by holding a panel with successful Chicago Muslim women activists. Several organizations including Muslim Girl collaborated to mark March 27 as Muslim Women’s Day. It is a day to encourage action, but also a day to celebrate Muslim women, the diversity of their experiences, and their important work and contributions to society.

To continue our recognition and celebration of the Muslim women leaders in our community, and Muslim Women’s Day, CIOGC will hold a panel that addresses the work and role of Muslim women advancing social justice at Islamic Foundation in Villa Park on April 30. The panel, entitled Islam, Women, & Social Justice will include a diverse group of women including Suzanne Akhras Sahloul, Executive Director of Syrian Community Network, and Husnaa Vhora, CIOGC Communications Coordinator, with others to be announced.

The panelists will share the work of their organizations, its impact, and how community members can get involved. Come out and show your support and appreciation for these women who are proudly representing the Muslim community in the face of adversity and marginalization of Muslims across the country.
