On December 21, 2015, US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO) announced the One America Campaign at a press conference in Washington, DC after a daylong summit with national American Muslim leaders. The summit was held in response to the San Bernardino shooting and the alarming rise of Islamophobic rhetoric especially by some presidential candidates.
USCMO launched the campaign during the ICNA-MAS convention which was held at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, MD, May 28-30, 2016. The main focus of the campaign is the One Million Voter Registration Drive. This drive will be conducted nationwide and throughout the year in an effort to make it a permanent community project. The one million voter registration drive will target the Muslim community and will expand to the general public. Member organizations of USCMO have already started the voter registration drive and thousands of new voters were registered since the December 21, 2015 announcement. The One America Campaign also has two major upcoming events:
Community leaders and activists are urged and encouraged to join the campaign and mobilize the American Muslim community to exercise their rights, be responsible citizens, and participate in the political process.
