“This being a girls’ high school,” said CIOGC Chair, Dr. Mohammed Kaiseruddin, at the Gala, “it is right to talk about women in Islam. Whereas Islam is accused to be oppressing women, the facts show another picture. Aqsa is a school exclusively for Muslim girls, even though all other Islamic schools admit girls. Aqsa is not only thriving, but has compiled a great record of achievements by Muslim girls, supported by their families. These girls are expected to show great leadership, as many of the former graduates already are.” CIOGC presented a congratulatory award to the School on their 30th anniversary.
It was a night of nostalgia and memories, as most of the original founders were in attendance, some of whom are still active in guiding the school. Dr. Mahmoud Ismail, the current Chair of the Board, has also been a top physician at the prestigious University of Chicago Hospital. He was chosen by CIOGC as one of the 2015 Top Muslim Achievers. Aqsa School is one of the founding CIOGC member organizations.
