CIOGC’s House of Representatives met for the first time in 2017 on January 28 at the Islamic Cultural Center of Greater Chicago (ICCGC) in Northbrook, Illinois. The agenda of the meeting focused on the Trump administration’s policies related to the Muslim community, including the President’s executive order to ban Muslim immigrants and refugees from seven African and Middle Eastern countries. Community leaders expressed concern over the rights and safety of Muslim Americans and immigrants in the current political climate and discussed plans to align with allies and CIOGC member organizations to mobilize the community against the injustices that have arisen under the current Trump administration.
