Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) invited a hijabi Muslim college student, Remaz Abdelgader onstage with him during his speech in Fairfax, Virginia after she alluded to Islamophobic political rhetoric. As Abdelgader spoke, Sanders invited her toward the stage and hugged her. As she finished her question, the senator led her to his podium by the hand before delivering his answer. The Democratic presidential candidate said Abdelgader was “absolutely correct” in mentioning the anger being generated towards not only Muslims, but immigrants. “If we stand for anything, we have got to stand together and end all forms of racism, and I will lead that effort as president of the United States,” he said.
