The Lexus Eco Challenge and Scholastic are partners in providing students with STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) projects and competion opportunities. In order to enter the competition, students need to address an environmental issue related to land and /or water. Furqaaan Academy Wahsi Squad chose to address the decline of Monarch butterflies in the USA. The project required them to submit a powerpoint presentation and video showing ways to help these species from becoming endangered or possibly extinct. To sponsor their project, they purchased the Milkweed seeds, Monarch butterflies favorite plant and sold them to people. They made $143 by selling the seeds. Also, to raise awarness, the students presented their finished project to Bolingbrook Village.
Congratulations to Wahsi Squad and to Furqaan Academy for winning at the Eco competition!
