11/16/16 – Call to action! Urge your representatives to support the MAAC bill

The function of the Illinois Muslim American Advisory Council (MAAC), as defined by SB 2932, is to advise the Governor and the General Assembly on policy issues impacting American Muslims  and immigrants, advance the role and civic participation of Muslim Americans in this State, to enhance trade and cooperation between Muslim-majority countries and this State, and to build relationships with and disseminate information to, in cooperation with State agencies, boards, and commissions, Muslim American and immigrant communities across this State.

As of November 16, the bill received only 60 votes out of the required 71 and could not be moved forward. Fortunately, Representative Rep. Mary E. Flowers (D-Chicago) of the 31st District Office prefers to present the bill in the Illinois General Assembly’s 99th Session on January 9-10, 2017.

Please contact your representatives and urge them to support the MAAC Bill (SB 2932)! CIOGC thanks Rep. Mary E. Flowers, Rep. Carol Ammons, Sen. Jacqueline Collins and Sen. Mattie Hunter for supporting this important initiative.
