MUSLIMS MUST JOIN MONDAY MAY 1 IMMIGRATION RALLY!
04/25/2006:
April 24, 2006 Chicago - The past several weeks have been a phenomenal display of the Latino Community coming together to lobby for Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Now, in a bid to further strengthen this demonstration of solidarity, other ethnic groups are joining in. Muslims in America, uniting with their Latino neighbors, plan to march down the streets of America on May 1. In the past, leadership from the Hispanic Community stood by Muslims and called for just treatment. Now Muslims will stand up for their Hispanic brothers. “When Latinos hurt, we all hurt,” said Mr. Abdul Malik Mujahid, Chairman, of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago. “Our gathering on May 1, 2006 is intended to send a message to the US government to do what’s right, to do what’s humane.” This growing movement is no longer just about undocumented laborers. It is about all Americans, whether immigrants or their children and grandchildren. Muslim families, students and clergy are joining the rallies to demand fairness, dignity and an end to the hypocrisy that ignores illegal immigration when it’s convenient, but chooses to crack down harshly on it when it’s expedient.
It is also about respect for all. Muslims, like Latinos, have faced undue mistreatment and abuse. “More than 500,000 Muslims have suffered since 9/11. It’s about time that we say no to fear and stand up for our rights and the rights of other people. We need to march on May 1,” said Mujahid. Currently, there are reports by Muslims and non-Muslims of years of backlog and delays to their obtaining citizenship, even when all of the rules have been obeyed, the paperwork completed and fees paid. More Than 200,000 People Expected To March Hand In Hand We Need You There To Make It Happen! When: May 1, 1- 3 PM Where: Thompson Center (100 W. Randolph, Chicago) Transport: Buses Will Leaving From Masjids for the Rally. To arrange buses from your mosque to the rally contact the Council at (312) 506.0070. council@ciogc.org.All Masjids and schools are mobilizing thousands of Muslims for May 1st. Volunteer and Donate by calling the Council at (312) 506.0070. Flyers and posters available. - Put Millions Of Men, Women And Children In Jail
Arrest And Deport Kids Who Have Lived In America Nearly All Their Lives And Rip Families Apart
- Deny Basic Civil Rights To Immigrants.
More Than 500,0000 Muslims have suffered since 9/11. It’s about time we say ‘No’ To Fear and stand up for our rights and those of other people. March on May 1st. The March is being organized by more than 200 organizations. The Muslim Community is being represented by The Council Of Islamic Organizations Of Greater Chicago.

 Eid Mubarak
01/02/2006: (1/2) Muslims in Chicago will be praying Eid al-Adha on Tuesday as well as
on Wednesday. This is not the first time it has happened. The Council of Islamic
Organizations of Greater Chicago has been contacted by many Muslims recently
about the Council’s position regarding Eid al-Adha. The Council has not
made any decision regarding it and there are no current plans to do that either.
Celebrating two Eids in the same city is an old problem in many American communities
that will require a good amount of discussion among scholars, dialogue among
the leadership, patience, brotherhood and wisdom to resolve it. The Council
has established a committee to help unify crescent decisions, and they have
been using due diligence whilst carrying out this difficult task.
Those who follow crescent observation in North America have announced the start
of Zul-Hijja on Monday, January 2nd and will observe Eid al-Adha on Wednesday
January 11, 2006.
Saudi Arabia has announced that the Day of Arafah for Hajj is January 9th, 2006.
The Fiqh Council of North America in solidarity with those performing the Hajj
pilgrimage has announced that Eid will be on Tuesday, January 10th, 2006.
The Council encourages respect of both choices based on individual understanding
and prays for the unity of Muslim community.
Eid Mubarak to all.
Do you agree with the Council’s position? Would you like the Council
to take an active role in Chicago regarding the Eid Decisions? Please voice
your opinion in a forum
specially set up on the Council’s website for this purpose. Please also
vote in an unscientific
poll on the Council’s website regarding it. You can also respond to
the Council chairman Abdul
Malik Mujahid’s blog regarding it as well.
