On September 25th,The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago co-hosted a "Keep Families Together! Protect Civil Rights!" rally along with partner organization, the Illinois Coalition of Immigrant and Refuge Rights (ICIRR). The rally brought together 3,500 individuals from all backgrounds to make their voices heard for civil rights, civil liberties, immigrant rights and legalization. Council Chairman, Kareem Irfan, stressed the solidarity of Muslims, Latinos, South Asians and Bosnians. Mr. Irfan concluded by announcing the names of Congress officials whose districts collected voter registrations. Other key speakers included Congressman Luis Gutierrez and ICIRR President Juan Salgado.
