The CIOGC worked actively with the Illinois Human Rights Commission and the International Association of Human Rights Agencies (IAHRA) to support and promote a two-hour Dialog for Muslim-Jewish Understanding at the IAHRA Annual Convention at the Sheraton Towers, Chicago. The Council worked at short notice to gather Muslim leaders for this important event, which was moderated effectively by Executive Committee member Azam Nizamuddin, and featured a candid dialog between renowned Professor Dr. Akbar Ahmed and Dr. Judea Pearl (father of slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl).
The public dialog was followed by a private meeting between event organizers, Drs. Ahmed & Pearl, and leaders of the Muslim & Jewish communities. Chairman Kareem Irfan spoke at this meeting and highlighted the CIOGC’s proven commitment to important inter-faith initiatives including the recently concluded Interfaith Collaboration of Emerging Leaders which involved a highly successful, year-long experiential training program for selected youth from the Muslim, Jewish, Christian and Sikh faiths.
