May 23, saw the grand finale at the Chicago Hilton & Towers of a year-long program undertaken by the Council of Islamic Organizations and the Jewish, Greek Orthodox and Sikh communities under the auspices of the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago. Based on a generous post-9/11 grant from Chevron, about 20 promising Muslim high school students came together over the past year with their Jewish, Christian and Sikh counterparts to learn about each others’ faiths and become better prepared to work together to create respect and understanding for other religions, races and cultures. Council Chairman, Kareem Irfan, congratulated the gathering of about 80 ICEL graduates, their families, and inter-faith leaders, and indicated that the Council has high hopes as these young graduates mature into the next generation of inter-faith leaders who are ambassadors of goodwill and collaboration. Mr. Irfan also thanked the Islamic Foundation for playing the Fiscal Agent role on this innovative project and its Chairman Zia Hassan and Financial Director Inam Raheem for their strong support.
