Faith Leaders Discuss Common Goals

The Council's Seventh Annual Interfaith Iftaar Dinner was hosted by the Islamic Cultural Center of Northbrook.  The dinner was attended by religious and civic leaders from across the Chicago area, representing a diversity of faith traditions.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Council's Excellence in Citizenry award to Mr. Mohammed Hussain.  The Council recognized Mr. Hussain for returning a bag of designer jewelry, valued at $230,000, that had been left in his taxi cab.  The keynote speakers, Reverend David Bebb, Bishop C. Joseph Sprague, and Chairman Kareem Irfan all formed an emerging theme of striving through faith to become true ambassadors of religion.  Mr. Irfan noted that Mr. Hussain is an ambassador of Islam because his "Actions exemplify the Prophetic call for each Believer to become Al-Amin, The Trustworthy One for whom Honesty is innate, a trait for Humanity to Embrace."

The evening also featured a performance by students from the north suburban Averroes Academy.
