I N M E M O R I A M
On the one-year anniversary of the tragic events of
September 11, 2001, we at the Council of Islamic
Organizations of Greater Chicago join our fellow Americans
in remembering all those who passed away-Muslims,
Christians, Jews and those from other faiths-during the
evil attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and in
rural Pennsylvania, their suffering families, and all
those who contributed valiantly in an hour of desperate
need.
In this time of reflection, our hearts are with the
victims and loved ones of all whose lives have been
devastated by senseless attacks against the innocent. Our
prayers are for peace, fortitude and healing, in keeping
with Islam's strong obligation of sincere compassion and
caring for all fellow beings.
Extraordinary times over the past year have found the
Council and Chicago's American-Muslim community privileged
to share, promote and fortify meaningful ties amongst our
fellow Americans. Today, we once again reaffirm a
commitment to forging bridges of understanding, tolerance,
peace and unity amongst Americans of all faiths-that, we
strongly believe, is a fitting tribute of love and
open-mindedness to all those innocents who lost their
lives to acts of hatred and prejudice.
