July 18, 2002 Dear Community Partner It has been my great pleasure to work with thousands of concerned Chicagoans during the four plus years that I have been Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department. Our city is indeed fortunate to have the support of the Muslim community in our Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy. Muslim community leaders, including Kareem Irfan, Chairman of the Council of Islamic Organizations, and I have met over the past eight months to foster and strengthen our relationship. In addition, we have established a close working relationship to help educate and inform our police officers as well as other community members about Islam. We once again reach out to our partners in the Muslim community to assist us as we seek new recruits from every neighborhood, from every community, from every beat to join us in making Chicago a better place in which to live or work. The Chicago Police Department conducts beat meetings so that neighborhood problems can be identified and prioritized for action. We employ a three pronged approach to solving problems by involving the resources of the police, the neighborhood and city services. We need you, the members of the Muslim community, to be partners in this endeavor. Every member of the community ranging from residents to business owners, educators or clergy has an obligation and an opportunity to become involved. You can make a difference! Please consider joining us in our efforts to improve the quality of life in our beloved city.
