Chicago, IL / Feb 21-The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) has condemned attacks on Churches in Nigeria and Turkey that have led to the death of 15 Christians. “The taking of innocent lives, whether by protesters or by police while restraining mobs,is worse than the cartoons themselves,” said CIOGC Chairman, Abdul Malik Mujahid. “While the cartoons are a disgrace, there is no question that the destruction of any place of worship and loss of life is sacrilegious to Muslims.” He added that the violence and mayhem is deeply regretted by peaceable Muslims and is contrary to the teachings of Islam. While almost all Muslims have condemned the depiction of the Prophet of Mercy and forgiveness as a terrorist, Muslims resorting to misguided behavior are discrediting even peaceful protests. CIOGC board members are available for interviews. About CIOGC The Council represents 50 mosques and Islamic Organizations, and a cross-section of over 400,000 Muslim Americans in the Greater Chicago area.
