Employment Opportunities at the Council
(12/6) The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago announces two job opportunities, joining its existing five-person team. Both positions are located at the Council’s new office in the Chicago Loop, at 231 S. State Street. The Council is a federation of over 50 mosques, Islamic schools and other non-profit Muslim-run entities advocating the interests of over 400,000 Muslims in the Chicago metropolitan area. The Council, located in the Chicago Loop, is a non-profit organization with 501(c) 3 status. 1. Director of Development The Council seeks an experienced, full-time Director of Development. The Director will coordinate and manage all aspects of fund raising for the Council. Job Responsibilities Include: - Plan and implement fund raising campaigns.
- Research potential grant opportunities, develop relationship with potential grant-givers and engage in writing grant applications.
- Conceptualize and implement donor cultivation strategies.
- Organize the Council’s fundraising events.
- Manage and maintain donor-tracking database. Maintain other files.
- Conduct ongoing prospect research and add new prospects to the database.
- Grow donor relations via written communications, phone calls, meetings and events.
- Develop and manage donor recognition plans & programs including donor benefits and other fund-raising tools.
- Process donations and acknowledge receipts. Provide end-of-year statements.
- Coordinate the annual appeal and provide an Annual Report.
- Coordinate appropriate greeting cards or mailings to donors for major events and Holidays throughout the year.
Minimum Qualifications: - Excellent written and oral communication skills required. .
- The ability to deliver Jumu’ah Khutbah.
- Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, Public Relations, Public Administration, or equivalent required.
- Two years of marketing and/or development experience, or equivalent preferred.
- Two years work experience with a not-for-profit organization, or equivalent required.
- Proficiency with MS Excel, and MS Word computer software required.
- Experience with MS Access and desktop publishing software is desirable.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills required.
- Previous non-profit experience is highly desirable.
This is an exempt position. The incumbent must be available forty hours a week which includes Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and one of the week-end days 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM (one-hour break for lunch and prayers included). There is some flexibility in the work schedule, but one weekend day is a must. 2. Manager of Administration The Council seeks experienced, full-time Manager of Administration. The Manager will coordinate and manage all aspects of maintaining a highly functional office for the Council. Job Responsibilities Include: - Manage office and organizational communications.
- Coordinate projects and organize activities and events as needed.
- Manage the Council’s relationships with its members.
- Organize and maintain the Council’s records.
- Maintain the Council’s databases.
- Purchasing and Maintenance of Office Equipment & Supplies.
- Edit the Council’s website including word changes, addition or deletion of copy and graphics.
- Manage volunteers and interns.
Minimum Qualifications: - Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- College Degree strongly preferred.
- We need someone with a go-getter personality with ability to multi-task.
- Ability to meet new challenges with an open mind and an optimistic response.
- Must be highly energetic, organized, reliable and able to prioritize work assignments.
- Must be very familiar with all of the MS Office applications.
- Knowledge of FrontPage or DreamWeaver software is preferred.
- Previous non-profit Experience is highly desirable.
This is an exempt position. The incumbent must be available forty hours a week Monday-Friday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (one-hour break for lunch and prayers included). He/she must be available certain evenings and weekends. Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, administrative and office management skills.
