|
The theme of the Council’s recent reception for leaders of Chicago’s
ethnicity-based Muslim organizations was aptly summarized by the words of
Council Chairperson Abdul Malik Mujahid. He said, “It is not an option, but an
Islamic duty to work together and unite.” Outreach
Director Muneer Aliuddin touched upon the various campaigns the Council has
undertaken this year; the citizenship, healthcare, charity, cab, Paryani and
Belbachir campaigns. The rest of the evening focused on the Council leadership
listening to the many viewpoints of the diverse audience present on how the
Council and the ethnic organizations can work together to better empower and
serve Chicago’s diverse Muslim community.
Cheikh
Balla Samb, president of Dahira Touba, a Senegalese organization, thanked the
Council for putting the event together, saying this is his first contact with
the Council despite having lived in Chicago for 14 years. Among the other ethnic
organizations represented were the Maghreb Association, the Chicago Association
of Latino American Muslims, the Coalition of Pakistani Organizations, Chicago’s
Mali community and the Bangladesh Association.
