Become a Council Intern

The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago is pleased to announce the following internships for accomplished and committed juniors and seniors high school and college students who desire to broaden their experience and gain valuable skills, while providing significant assistance to Chicago’s Muslim community. All internship opportunities are unpaid, and require an eight-week commitment. Media & Public Relations Internship

The Media & Public Relations Internship will allow individuals to gain valuable experience in managing media coverage of American Muslim concerns and events. This year’s internship will focus on preparation of media advisories and statements, arranging press conferences, media watch, development of a list of media experts, and helping in the arrangement and management of public events. Individuals will work in coordination with the Director of Outreach and should have strong interpersonal skills, excellent writing skills, internet, PC, word, excel and powerpoint.

Newsletter Internship

Individuals accepted for the Newsletter Internship will gain valuable experience in development, design, writing, distribution and management of the various Council newsletters. Individuals will research and gather stories about the Chicago-area Muslim community and events. Those with excellent writing skills, Internet, PC, and word processing skills are preferred.

Website Internship

Individuals accepted for the Website Internship will gain valuable experience in website management and development. Individuals will research and gather stories about the Council and Chicago-area Muslim community for the website. They will also be involved in the design, and creation of web pages for various initiatives and campaigns. Individuals will work on other assignments in coordination with the Director of Outreach. Excellent writing skills, Internet, PC, and word processing skills. Any HTML or programming skills are a plus.

Interfaith Relations Internship

The Interfaith Relations Internship will offer individuals an opportunity to develop interpersonal communication skills through interactions with people of other faith traditions. Individuals will participate in and report on interfaith programs and dialogues coordinated by the Council’s Interfaith Committee. In addition, individuals will gain valuable experience through preparation for the annual interfaith banquet, annual Iftaar with the Cardinal and various other events. The intern should be outgoing with strong communication skills, word, Excel, and Powerpoint skills a plus.

Citizenship Internship

Individuals selected for the Council’s Citizenship Internship will work closely with the Outreach Coordinator to find new ways to reach out to the Chicago-area Muslim community on how they can become a citizen. The internship will include developing outreach plans, publicity materials, organizing events, maintaining a database and contacting individuals requiring our services. Communication skills, Internet, word, excel and basic PC skills required. Bilingual in Spanish, Urdu, or Arabic strongly preferred.

Council Development Internship

Individuals selected for the Council Development Internship will gain valuable skills and experience in office management, database management, relationship management, fundraising, grant research and writing and research on issues impacting the Chicago-area Muslim community. Individuals will work under the direct supervision of the Council’s Director of Outreach. Communication skills, Internet, word, excel, powerpoint, and basic PC skills required.

Community Organizing Internship

The objective of Community Organizing is to facilitate participation in broad-based organizing projects in the Chicago Metropolitan area between multiple organizations for the common good. Individuals will be involved in recruiting and coordinating volunteers, plan and coordinate community based events, and publicize Council events.
