Council Attends Chicago Police Department Multicultural Forum

Council Chairman Abdul Malik Mujahid and the Director of Outreach Muneer
Aliuddin, along with other community leaders attended the Chicago Police
Department's Quarterly Multicultural Forum on September 8. The forum, hosted by
Superintendent Cline, also had attendees from the various faiths, law
enforcement and city officials. The evening began with a viewing of a
compilation video of all the sensitivity training videos that have been created
for the CPD over the past four years.
The featured guest speaker for the
evening was Ms. Sue Williams of the London Metropolitan Police. Ms. Williams
presented the steps that the Metropolitan Police have taken in the wake of the
July 7 train bombings. She discussed the outreach efforts that have been made to
the London Muslim community. During the discussion Council Chairman Mujahid
raised the question of how community leaders, such as those gathered that
evening, could prevent what took place on July 7.

Shahnawaz Khan, Dr. Shakir Moiduddin, the Chairman of the Council's Interfaith
Committee, the President of At-Takaful mosque, Mohammad Abdul Hai and Yaser
Tabbara, the Executive Director of CAIR-Chicago all attended the forum. The
forum was also attended by the FBI’s Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge from the
Chicago Division, State Attorney as well as several key representatives from
Homeland Security, suburban police chiefs and interfaith leaders.
