COMMUNITY ALERT: Respond to Miami Terror Alerts
Announcements :: 3080
Remaining silent is the last thing a Muslim wants to do when everyone else is talking about Islam and Muslims.
Listen to the news and talk shows, participate and respond about how you feel.
There can be many talking points. You can pick and choose from any of the following points:
- Remember everyone is innocent until proven guilty (that is, without torturing them and without secret evidence.)
- People arrested yesterday are using Judeo-Christian Terms like “Seeds of David” which are not Islamic terms. They are calling their place of worship a temple not a mosque. They were reading Bibles not Quran.
- Sears Tower is a symbol of pride for Chicago Muslims since it was designed by a Chicago Muslim named Fazlur Rehman Khan who was a professor at IIT, was the chief architect of Karachi, Pakistan with Bangladeshi heritage. The positive contributions of Muslims rarely get mentioned in the media.
- Muslims in America have always condemned terrorism and no member of any mosque so far has been proven to have committed any act of terrorism.
- And if, during the talk shows, an opportunity presents itself that allows you to do so, call for a fair trial and an open process. Most cases of terrorism against Muslims accused of terrorism have fizzled out as was the case of the last famous raids in Lodi, California. Even the Miami indictment of Mr. Padilla who was designated an "enemy combatant" and held for 3 1/2 years without charge does not even mention the "dirty bomb" allegations. Same was the situation of the spy case against Captain James Yee.
- Despite continued scrutiny and accusations, Muslims in America have proven to be law abiding and peaceful citizens. More than 500,000 Muslims have been interviewed in the last four years and many routinely face harassment, yet these accusations have not been substantiated.
- The Council has already issued a statement this morning showing its relief that Sears Tower was not in any imminent danger, condemning all acts of terror, and cautioning rush to judgment. The Council is also organizing a press conference on the issue this afternoon as well.
