4/14/14 - AMP honors Dr. Salman Abu Sitta at annual fundraiser

The American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) of Chicago honored Dr. Salman Abu Sitta at its annual fundraising dinner on Saturday, April 5. Dr. Abu Sitta, who is an expert on the Nakba and the Palestinian Right of Return, was the keynote speaker of the dinner, during which he was presented with AMP-Chicago’s annual Al Quds award. The prestigious prize was also given to Fadi Sahouri, former chairman of the organization’s Chicago chapter.

During the event, AMP previewed its recent national programs, which include its bus ad campaign currently running in Washington D.C., the creation of a Palestine curriculum for Islamic schools, the commissioning of a policy paper, as well as the addition of a new staff member, Mrs. Amira Daoud.

The organization also introduced its education committee, which brings Palestine-focused events to college campuses and Islamic schools in order to provide a young adult leadership training program.

Kristin Szremski, AMP director of media and communications, said, “The trust you have placed in us is an amaneh, and we will work our hardest to make sure that trust is well-placed. We will not stop until the day Palestine is free and we can all gather together at our beloved Al Aqsa, inshaAllah ... To those who attended our dinner, thank you! If you were not able to attend but still want to support the cause of Palestine, you can still make a tax-exempt donation!”

AMP-Chicago held its first fundraising event six years ago.
