The CIOGC Congratulates the People of Libya
Justice Prevails for the Libyan People
The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) congratulates the people of Libya in today's historical news that the brutal dictator, Moammar Gadhafi, has met his fate although confirmation of his death is still undetermined. This is an end of an era of oppression and the beginning of freedom and democracy for the Libyan people.
"This milestone in Libya's history serves as a moment of true liberation for the Libyan people," said Dr. Zaher Sahloul, CIOGC Chairman adding that, "the seeds of democracy have been planted, and we look forward to watching Libyans enjoy the very same freedoms that we Americans enjoy here at home."
Acknowledging the important role of self-determination as the means toward sustainable democracy, the CIOGC holds high hopes that the people of Libya will transform their government into one embracing peace, justice, and equality with a healthy economic future. "Libya has waited for this day with great patience," said Ahlam Jbara, Associate Director, "The tides have turned, the people have spoken, and the future looks bright."
The Chicagoland Libyan Committee will be holding a press conference today Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 6:30pm at the Aqsa School, 7361 W. 92nd st. Bridgeview IL 60455. Community members will be gathered and available for interviews.
