Join us for the 4th Annual Illinois Muslim Action Day on Tuesday, April 17th 2012 to participate in civic life and make your voices heard.
The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago, YOUR Council, is preparing for the 4th Annual Illinois Muslim Action Day. On Tuesday, April 17th, 2012, Muslims from all over the Land of Lincoln will set out to Springfield to get their voices heard. The year of 2012 is a crucial one for America. Americans will be heading to the polls for the primaries and on Election Day in November to choose our representatives, senators and most importantly the next president of the United States.
Here in Illinois, it is crucial to have our voices heard!
The past three years of Illinois Muslim Action Day (IMAD) we came together as a united community to advocate for issues of common good. In 2011 together we turned out 1,200 community members to Springfield. We partnered with our religious and civic partners to advocate on issues relevant to our community. Among the issues were:
- Cleaner environment and designating the Month of Ramadan as the Green Month for all of Illinois
- Introducing strategic languages such as Arabic and Mandarin Chinese into the public schools,
- The Illinois Dream Act
- Addressed the food deserts in the inner city
- Equity Education
Since our last Muslim Action Day, we have had a few of the legislations passed in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Illinois DREAM Act, Performance counts (education), the Green Ramadan Resolution and Immigrant and refugee services were maintained.
This year we hope to build on our successes. With your help we will be going to Springfield to advocate for issues relevant to our community and all of Illinois.
We want to invite all of our community leaders, our elderly, our youth, teachers, doctors, lawyers, business owners, MSAs and all who care about Illinois to join the 4th annual Illinois Muslim Action Day!
This is the time to come together, unite and connect with our legislators and policy makers and work for a prosperous future and a prosperous Illinois for all. This is our time to take action and practice our civic duty to our great state.
Join YOUR Council and make YOUR voice heard on April 17th at the 4th annual Illinois Muslim Action Day!

What is the Issue Agenda?
Our Education system continues to deteriorate, the public school system has failed our children, especially in poverty driven neighborhoods. An education overhaul is needed immediately!
Health Care Access for All
The All Kids program must remain in place so that no Illinois child goes without care. Making sure immigrant organizations are included in implementing the Affordable Care Act, supporting charity care at the state level, and advocating for language access improvements at the county level will ensure a healthier community for all Illinoisans.
Stop Hatred Against Muslims
We stand together to fight discrimination and hateful public discourse regarding Islam and Muslims
Un-Marked campaign for expungement of juvenile records
Making our juvenile justice system more efficient would increase opportunities for our state's youth.
