A Request to the Khateebs

Dear Respected Khatib:

The Zakat Chicago, a committee of CIOGC, requests you to deliver your Jum'ah khutbah on the topic of Zakat in order to raise awareness of this important pillar of Islam. You may develop your khutbah as you consider appropriate; however, the following structure is suggested for you to consider:

1. Motivate people to pay Zakat by discussing its importance in relation to Salat. Talk about the importance of institutionalizing Zakat in order to create a more efficient and effective way to distribute the collected money.
2. Briefly explain the Nisab and define how much Zakat there is on personal wealth. Also, mention the eight categories for distribution.
3. Briefly talk about Zakat Chicago and its policy of collecting and distributing the Zakat money locally. Local masjids focus on distributing money to deserving individuals, but Zakat Chicago is focused on funding eligible community projects and determining the overall zakat needs in various communities in the greater Chicago area.
