Thirty avid administrators sat together on Saturday, June 5, with a determined fervor to carry our 47 weekend Islamic school institutions to the next level. The Administrators Assembly with representatives from schools across Chicagoland including Islamic Community Center Northbrook (ICC), MAS Quran Institute, Islamic Foundation Sunday School (IFSS), Islamic Society of Northwest Suburbs (ISNS), Masjid Al-Huda, Islamic Center of Naperville (ICN), Masjid Farooq, MECCA and others, pulled together to launch the promise of future success for our weekend schools, God willing.

The goal of the Assembly was to start the implementation of a 5 year strategic plan for the advancement of Islamic weekend schools. The plan, shaped by the insights of over 35 weekend school leaders, was designed over a three month period of focus group discussions facilitated by the Council's Youth Department comprised of staff and volunteers.

At the Assembly, administrators divided themselves into two teams. One team embarked on a project for setting basic target outcomes for a typical graduate of any Chicago weekend Islamic school in the areas of Quranic studies, seerah, fiqh, and character building. The other team is planning a process for the professional development of weekend school teachers including the incorporation of different tracks at future training conferences for teachers of different skill sets or levels of experience. The teams will continue to meet, deliberate and finalize their tasks by set deadlines under the Council's facilitation.

The ultimate outcome? Reaching through teaching.

Yes, reaching through teaching thousands of young Muslim Americans who will graduate with sound knowledge and practical embodiments of their beautiful faith tradition; beacons of service and peace for their communities and for their broader American society.
